People’s Petition to the International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion
Led by Pacific Islands Students Fighting Climate Change, World's Youth for Climate Justice (WYCJ) and Future Generations Tribunal
The People’s Petition is out and gathers the testimonies of communities experiencing climate impacts worldwide.
Nearly 20 outstanding people from different cultures living in different climate provided us with a clear understanding of the growing climate injustices and climate impacts mostly caused by a small fraction of the world. As a scientist working on divergence of views on climate justice, I cannot stress enough the shared understanding and feeling of the injustice of the current climate crisis and the need to act.

Coverage in IPCC and UNEP reports
Our studies’ results are mentioned in both the IPCC Special Report on 1.5°C (2018) and the IPCC 6th Assessment Report, as well as several UNEP Gap Reports. The intergovernmental nature of these institutions limits the scope of their reports. Since its 5th Assessment Report (2013), the IPCC has mentioned the literature modelling what would be fair emissions objectives for countries, but did not provide quantitative estimates.

Documentary - Worldwide, activists spread the word by reiterating their actions. But governments only are able to impose measures commensurate to such challenge. Spanning Europe, we follow 4 major cases initiated by people of all ages, and brought against European states: “#YouthforClimate” (Portugal), “Urgenda” (Netherlands), “L’Affaire du Siècle” (Case of the Century - France) and the “Aînées pour le Climat” (Senior Women for Climate Protection - Switzerland). For the very first time ever, the European Court of Human Rights considered their request…
